A strange watery salty lake in California turned out to save the more bizarre creatures living in it. There, some researchers found new species of bacteria that is reproduced by arsenic elements. This discovery redefined the life as we have known lately. Bacteria are found not only to eat the arsenic, the researchers say, but they also incorporate toxic elements directly into their DNA. The findings suggest that scientists currently know little variant only living beings that inhabit the Earth. May not even be anything if they find a variety of forms of life on the moon and other planets.
“We have opened the door to the possibility of life in other places on the universe,” said Felisa Wolfe-Simon, a researcher from NASA’s Astrobiology Institute and the U.S. Geological Survey who led the research.
